Position Overview
Parsons Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Survey Crew Chief to oversee and execute construction layout and engineering survey services. This position plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality surveying services for various infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute topographic, engineering, and as-built surveys.
- Manage building and structural layout as well as structural quality control surveys.
- Conduct earthwork surveys, including earth volume and cut-fill management.
- Gather field data utilizing a range of surveying instruments.
- Supervise quality control of data collection, ensuring thoroughness in field notes and daily downloads.
- Provide support for unplanned discoveries, completing necessary documentation and follow-up tasks.
- Maintain precise, clear, and concise field notes, and perform rapid calculations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years of surveying experience.
- Proficient in operating robotic total stations, Windows-based data collectors, GNSS technology, and other data collection tools.
- At least 2 years of experience in construction surveying.
- Familiarity with GPS equipment operation.
- Competent in using MS Office software; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
- Completion of a minimum 2-year college program in geomatics technology or equivalent relevant experience.
- Skilled in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting conventional and GPS survey equipment.
- Comfortable with static control surveys, high-precision layout work, and first-order leveling techniques, or willing to learn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Commitment to environmental health and safety in the workplace.
- Willingness to mentor and train colleagues.
- Ability to work in various field or office settings under diverse weather conditions, completing field reports accurately and promptly.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., Confined Space, Fall Protection, Aerial Lift) are advantageous; training may be provided.
- Responsible for the accountability and oversight of assigned field survey work.
- Ensure effective site communication.
- Maintain accountability for equipment maintenance, control, repair, and inventory.
- Execute and interpret Project Manager field directives.
- Manage data collection and field measurement accuracy.
- Advanced skills in calculations and angle/distance measurements.
- Complete Field Hazard documentation and assessments.
- Ensure personal safety and identify potential hazards in the field.
- Experience with municipal engineering and land development projects is a plus.
- Knowledge of sewer, water main, earthworks, and road construction methods and materials.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Capable of transporting and handling up to 50 lbs. of field equipment and navigating construction sites.
- Flexibility to work afternoons and weekends on a rotational basis.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills in dynamic environments.
