Role Summary: Asphalt Plant Operator

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the Astec Double Barrel Asphalt Plant to produce high-quality hot mix asphalt.
  • Manage truck loading and ticketing processes efficiently.
  • Utilize a front-end loader to supply materials to the asphalt plant.
  • Safely unload Asphalt Cement Oil from bulk transport to storage tanks, adhering to strict safety protocols.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on the asphalt plant as necessary.
  • Maintain effective two-way radio communication with the asphalt plant team to ensure optimal plant operation and monitoring.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Adapt to project schedules that may require overtime, weekend, and/or night shifts.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures diligently.
  • Ensure the safe execution of tasks performed by plant personnel.
  • Engage in and enhance safety programs and initiatives as part of the plant team.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • At least one year of experience in asphalt plant operations, preferably with an Astec Double Drum plant.
  • Demonstrated mechanical skills for general plant maintenance, including welding, fabrication, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs regularly.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to ensure project completion.
  • Interpersonal skills to respond appropriately to the needs and capabilities of others, adjusting approaches as necessary.
  • Awareness of safety hazards and precautions required to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.
