About the Role:
Lakeridge Health is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse to join our Mental Health team. As a member of our interprofessional team, you will provide client-centred care to patients on our inpatient mental health units, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical care to patients on the inpatient mental health units, including the General unit and Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
- Contribute to the treatment approach for the unit, perform assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate the interprofessional plan of client care
- Work within a primary nursing model, actively contributing to the care of patients and their families
- Collaborate with the interprofessional team to provide comprehensive care to patients
- Develop and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients and their families
Qualifications:
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing)
- A current B.C.L.S. certificate
- Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college
- Minimum 1 year Mental Health/psychiatric experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions
- CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing (considered an asset)
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO
- Demonstrated excellent knowledge of, and experience in group theories and dynamics
- Demonstrated knowledge of Community Mental Health Resources
- Completion of a Non-Violent Crisis Prevention or equivalent course (within 1 month of hire)
- Completion of a Mental Health Certificate Program (preferred, with expected completion within 3 years of hire)
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Trauma-informed care, and Psychotropic medication
- Demonstrated understanding of approaches to assessing and managing suicide risk
- Demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour
- Ability to conduct Mental Health Assessments with excellent interviewing and communication skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop a therapeutic Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team
- Ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds
- Bilingualism or proficiency in a second language (an asset)
- Satisfactory performance record

- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices, including staff, patient, and environmental safety, and participation in regular in-services in this area
