Job Title: Social Assistance Technician - Women's Shelter

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Social Assistance Technician to join our team at the Women's Shelter. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing crisis intervention and support services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide short-term counseling services to clients, focusing on crisis intervention and support.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with management, staff, and partners.
  • Establish and maintain a warm, personal, and professional relationship with clients and non-clients.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment within the shelter at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the social work code of ethics.

Requirements:

  • Diploma of college studies in Social Work Techniques or Social Assistance Techniques.
  • Experience in social work or a related field is an asset.
  • Knowledge of public and community health prevention and promotion approaches is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Cree culture and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Miyupimaatisiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset.
  • Excellent teamwork, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Autonomous, flexible, and empathetic with excellent communication skills.
  • Fluent in English and Cree; fluency in French is an asset.

Language:

  • Fluent in English and Cree.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
