We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Northumberland Hills Hospital. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Dispense medications to all clinical areas, including narcotic and controlled substances, patient-specific medication, and stocking automated dispensing cabinets.
- Generate BPMH from patient interviews, collect sources from community pharmacies or other facilities, and work closely with other interprofessional teams.
- Repackage medications, including narcotics, using automated packaging equipment and software.
- Maintain established medication levels in the pharmacy and automated dispensing cabinets, including narcotics and controlled substances.
- Compound and package sterile and non-sterile medications, including bio-hazardous agents, in accordance with manufacturing practice and WHMIS guidelines.
- Conduct continuous improvement audits, including expiration dates, and monitor medication area inspections.
- Maintain crash cart inventory and records.
- Assist in maintaining records of purchase, issue, and returns in accordance with hospital and legal requirements.
- A diploma from an accredited community college Pharmacy Technician program or equivalent.
- Registration with the OCP as a Registered Pharmacy Technician.
- Recent hospital pharmacy experience preferred or comparable applicable work experience.
- Familiarity with pharmacy and medical terminology, aseptic techniques, manufacturing and labeling standards of practice, and pharmacy calculations.
- Recent hospital experience.
- Knowledge of EPIC and Omnicell.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to participate in a team environment.
- Basic typing and computer skills.
Successful applicants are required to provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, completed less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process, which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the thirty (30) days of employment.
