About Our Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at Elections Nova Scotia as a GIS Analyst/Programmer. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in modernizing the electoral process using your knowledge of up-to-date ESRI GIS software, GIS development environment, and cartography.

Primary Accountabilities
  • You will collaborate with the IT/GIS team members at Elections Nova Scotia in the maintenance and monitoring of Elections Nova Scotia GIS & IT corporate datasets.
  • You will be responsible for multiple projects at any given time requiring the ability to multi-task and work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • You will employ your knowledge and experience of GIS principals, mapping, and cartography to perform GIS analysis in support of electoral administration.
  • You will perform GIS datasets edits and data maintenance and implement quality assurance activities.
  • You will develop and produce cartographic products.
  • You will apply your experience and knowledge of Python and JavaScript among other programming languages to maintain current GIS application systems and develop new GIS-related tools.
  • You will provide IT technical support to staff and election officers when requested.
Qualifications and Experience

You have a bachelor's degree in a relevant Geomatics field plus five (5) years of related experience; or graduation from an approved technical school in the field of Geomatics plus eight (8) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

You have demonstrated knowledge of geographic and spatial concepts, hands-on experience using ESRI's ArcServer, ArcGIS desktop software, and ArcGIS Online, experience using Python in GIS applications and tools, experience in ModelBuilder to develop automated processes, and experience in cartography.

Having the following will be considered as assets: knowledge of Nova Scotia civic addresses and road network geographic features, experience in other programming languages such as ASP.NET, C# or JavaScript, and experience with ArcGIS WPF SDK.
