Victoria Newitt Recruitment Inc is partnering with a leading natural and sustainable food company to find a talented Research and Development Manager.

This role will be instrumental in driving innovation and product development across the company's diverse range of offerings, ensuring they align with strategic objectives and contribute to growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a portfolio of product innovation and renovation projects, prioritizing initiatives that support overall business strategy and expansion.
  • Execute product and process development projects, ensuring successful delivery within budget and time constraints.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, evaluate, and prioritize new product development opportunities.
  • Cultivate a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the R&D team, fostering strong relationships across departments.
  • Develop prototypes from laboratory stage to production evaluation, conducting sensory evaluations and shelf-life studies on both new and existing products.
  • Implement cost reduction strategies for new and existing products, while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking, technology reviews, and intellectual property searches to stay ahead of industry trends.
  • Assist management in establishing critical design parameters for products, ensuring alignment with functional claims, ingredient strategies, stability systems, process development, and packaging formats.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of current CFIA/FDA labeling regulations and proactively communicate any changes or potential issues to management.
  • Work closely with government bodies such as the CFIA and other health professionals as required.
  • Ensure compliance with Organic, Non-GMO, and Kosher certification standards, actively managing applications and renewals.
  • Prepare annual SRED reports and other documentation as needed.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional initiatives to advance product development goals and achieve desired business outcomes.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Food Science or a Food Technology diploma is required.
  • 7+ years of experience in research and development, with a focus on product development within the food industry.
  • Proven ability to plan, develop, and implement effective team-based systems.
  • Strong industrial research and analytical skills, coupled with a deep understanding of food science principles.
  • Experience building relationships and collaborating with external partners, including suppliers and co-packers.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food safety, GMP, HACCP, and work safety practices.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Food Safety regulations and standards, as well as Organic, Non-GMO & Kosher certification requirements.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Excel and Word.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a demonstrated ability to take initiative, drive alignment and decisions, and contribute innovative ideas.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
