About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Aquatic Programs Instructor to join our team at the YMCA of Simcoe-Muskoka. As a key member of our aquatics team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality swimming instruction and ensuring the safety of our members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional swimming lessons to various age groups, following established curriculum and YMCA standards.
  • Plan, organize, and implement core lesson plans, progress reports, and evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date progress sheets and records for participants.
  • Set up and take down recreational, program, and other equipment as required, ensuring safety and proper maintenance.
  • Complete a safety check of lifesaving equipment prior to each shift and assist staff with cleaning duties related to the pool and equipment.
  • Demonstrate a member-focused approach, promoting the YMCA's mission, vision, and values.
Requirements
  • National Lifeguard Program Award.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR "C" certification.
  • YMCA and/or Red Cross/Swim Instructor certification.
  • YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certification or equivalent (an asset).
  • Current WHMIS certification (an asset).
  • One to three months of previous experience in lifeguarding and swim instruction (an asset).
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills.
  • Experience and sensitivity in dealing with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work, including early mornings, days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Clear Police reference Check & Vulnerable Sector Screening.
