Position Overview:

The Lead Estimator for Nuclear Construction Projects plays a pivotal role in the success of our initiatives at Bird Construction. With over a century of excellence in the Canadian construction landscape, our legacy is built on the foundation of quality and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the tendering process for large-scale industrial construction projects, ensuring precision and thoroughness in all submissions.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses of project specifications, drawings, and documentation to ascertain project scope, requirements, and potential risks.
  • Interpret and understand tender drawings and specifications for projects valued up to approximately $1 Billion.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to formulate project plans, timelines, and financial estimates.
  • Assess potential changes in scope, additional costs, and claims, providing accurate financial evaluations and strategic recommendations.
  • Monitor project advancement and deliver regular updates to management, proactively identifying and addressing risks and challenges.
  • Present project proposals, cost assessments, and recommendations to internal teams and clients.
  • Maintain robust relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Encourage a collaborative and high-performance work culture, fostering teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the establishment and execution of departmental standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Adhere to Bird's safety management system, policies, and values.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in industrial construction estimating and project management.
  • At least 7 years of experience within the Nuclear Industry.
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field or a combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial construction processes, materials, and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., HCSS, Sage Estimating) and the MS Office suite.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as necessary.
