Job Title: Activity Aide

Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Activity Aide to join our team at Extendicare Peterborough. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs for residents, as well as performing other departmental tasks as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement one-to-one, self-directed, and group recreation programs based on assessed needs, abilities, and interests of residents.
  • Perform other departmental tasks as required or assigned by the Resident Program Manager.
  • Set up and clean activity areas as necessary and transport residents to and from programs and meals.
  • Monitor the behavior and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes to the Resident Program Manager and nursing staff as appropriate.
  • Maintain program and resident records and departmental communications, including daily attendance, multi-disciplinary progress notes, resident assessment, quarterly/annual reviews, and program audits as per department policy.
  • Work cooperatively with Programs Department staff, volunteers, and all multi-disciplinary team members to meet resident needs.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies or therapeutic recreation preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written), as well as excellent leadership/organization and documentation skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with Point Click Care and Activity Pro and Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel) preferred.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-to-one/group program planning, implementation, and evaluation with a diverse population.
  • Flexible, energetic, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and ability to manage time effectively.
