Job Title: Parent Mentor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Parent Mentor to join our team at the Aboriginal Health Wellness Centre of Winnipeg Inc. The successful candidate will provide support and guidance to individuals and families in the areas of substance abuse, fetal alcohol awareness, and health promotion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide counseling and support to program participants, focusing on establishing individual goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate home visitation and community support activities to maintain contact and deliver services matching the identified needs of constituents.
  • Maintain awareness of agencies and programs providing community and culturally based health, wellness, and lifestyle supports.
  • Facilitate and provide support to individual and group activities, such as personal counseling sessions, Sharing Circles, and Retreats.
  • Maintain accurate records of constituent contacts, personal visits, and appointments.
  • Act as an advocate for constituents, addressing immediate needs and encouraging personal empowerment and independence.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in dealing with prenatal substance abuse and misuse issues.
  • Previous experience working in an Aboriginal-based community services setting, providing physical, emotional, spiritual, and social support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Driver's License and vehicle for work tasks.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with constituents.
  • Maintaining accurate case records.
  • Ability to communicate in an Indigenous language(s) an asset.
