Under the supervision of the Manager of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in providing specialized support to individuals facing mental health challenges and substance use issues. This position is integrated within a law enforcement setting, collaborating closely with officers to facilitate de-escalation, community referrals, and transitions to acute care when necessary, ensuring the best possible outcomes for those in need.

The RN will engage in both immediate response to live incidents and follow-up support for individuals and their families, assisting with system navigation and service coordination. Additionally, the role encompasses responsibilities related to short-term case management services.

This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including shifts during days and evenings, and involves travel throughout the designated service area, utilizing either personal or police vehicles as needed.

Key Qualifications and Skills

Essential Requirements

Current registration with the Ontario College of Nurses as a Registered Nurse Certification from the Canadian Nurses Association in Psychiatry and Mental Health Nursing A minimum of 5 years of recent experience in community settings with individuals experiencing significant mental health and substance use challenges Ability to successfully complete Level 4 Security Clearance (OPP) Comprehensive knowledge of community resources available in the service area Familiarity with various crisis prevention and intervention strategies, including risk assessment and safety planning Proficient computer skills Strong analytical and organizational abilities, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality Valid Ontario Class 'G' driver's license and reliable transportation Capacity to work effectively within a team environment Experience collaborating with law enforcement or corrections is advantageous Bilingualism in both official languages is a plus Willingness to work all shifts as required A solid record of performance and attendance Adherence to Brightshores' 'CARE' Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and 'LEAD' Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others), alongside a commitment to a safe and respectful workplace Advocacy for patient safety and an understanding of how departmental responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores.
