Purpose of Role:

Financial Planning is an essential service offered to clients at Scotiabank Wealth Management.

The Lead Wealth Management Advisor is tasked with proactively delivering comprehensive financial planning guidance and support to affluent clients, serving as the in-field expert and advocate.

Key Responsibilities:

Accountable for the delivery of comprehensive, goal-oriented financial plans by:

  • Conducting thorough discovery to gather essential client data and insights
  • Developing, analyzing, and reviewing the financial plan along with a client-focused executive summary to ensure alignment with the client's unique requirements
  • Presenting the financial plan and associated strategies
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance relationships and drive business outcomes.

Serve as the subject matter expert and advocate for financial planning as a vital service within the Scotiabank Wealth Management value proposition:

  • Offering ongoing professional financial planning advice on intricate strategies
  • Encouraging Advisors and Relationship Managers to integrate financial planning into their business practices.
  • Promoting the value, benefits, and outcomes of financial planning to both advisors/RMs and clients.
  • Collaborating with internal teams (including tax, insurance consultants, estate planners, and philanthropic groups) to ensure a cohesive and organized approach to financial planning
  • Providing local software support and guidance as needed
  • Organizing and leading client and staff workshops and seminars on various contemporary topics related to financial planning
3. Relationship Development

  • Cultivating professional relationships with local external experts (e.g., accountants, lawyers, and other professionals as necessary) to deliver optimal service on complex planning issues.
  • Building connections with internal advisors/RMs and other specialists to foster collaboration among team members
4. Uphold financial planning professional practice standards and internal service level agreements.

  • Stay updated on all financial planning-related topics
  • Adhere to standard procedures, best practices, and professional codes of conduct in client engagements.
  • Meet or exceed service level agreements

Contribute to the effective operation of the Financial Planning Advisory team by:

  • Actively participating in team learning and development initiatives and team performance goals.
  • Fostering effective working relationships across the team and with various business line and corporate function contacts
  • Maintaining a high standard of customer service
  • Promoting a culture of open and honest communication
  • Actively engaging in team meetings and discussions
  • Encouraging the generation of innovative ideas and approaches
  • Sharing knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members
  • Developing and implementing a meaningful employee development plan
Required Skills:
  • In-depth technical understanding and execution of the financial planning process, including investments, asset protection, retirement, estate planning, cash management, and tax considerations
  • Strong presentation skills, particularly related to financial topics, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts in an easily digestible manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly establish relationships and trust.
  • Familiarity with the Wealth Management business line, including the value proposition, products, and services offered to high net worth clients, and the methods of delivery
  • Capacity to work independently in a proactive manner as well as collaboratively within a Team of Experts to identify opportunities while providing the highest level of service to clients. This includes ensuring experts are engaged at the appropriate time and in the right manner to maximize client service and opportunities for Wealth Management
  • Proficient knowledge of financial planning software (Naviplan) for preparing financial plans
  • Willingness to travel to meet clients within a designated region to achieve objectives in a timely manner
  • Understanding of insurance products and solutions

Educational Qualifications:
Required:
  • University degree
  • Accredited financial planning designation (CFP, RFP, PFP, Pl. Fin -IQPF applicable for Quebec)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a high net worth financial planner
  • Language proficiency in Mandarin or Cantonese
Preferred Qualifications:
  • TEP designation
  • Life Insurance license
  • Professional designation (CA, CMA, CGA, LLB)
  • Canadian Securities Course
  • Additional estate and/or tax courses
