  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate
  • Assign lessons and correct homework
  • Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health
  • Prepare, administer, and grade a variety of student evaluative tools such as projects, tests, assignments in order to evaluate students' progress
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order and safety among the students for whom they are responsible, under the guidance of the Principal
  • Enforce all administrative policies and rules governing students
  • Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress
  • Confers with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to discuss children's progress and resource needs, and to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems, as appropriate
  • Confers with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula
  • Collaborates with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs
  • Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Attends staff meetings, and serves on staff committees as required
  • Prepares students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks
  • Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests
  • Prepares and implements remedial programs for students requiring extra help
  • Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injury and damage
  • Provides special needs students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms, as necessary
  • Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, as appropriate, and guides students in learning from such activities
  • Uses computers, multi-media, and other equipment and materials to support the learning process
  • Organizes and supervises recreational and other activities as appropriate, to promote physical, mental, and social development
  • Sponsors extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests, as appropriate
  • Performs supervisory duties, as assigned, such as hall, cafeteria and playground monitoring, and bus loading and unloading
  • Plans assignments for Education Assistants, Special Education and other classroom support staff as appropriate, and assists the Principal in their supervision and evaluation of performance
  • Performs other related tasks as appropriate, including organizing materials, displaying students' work, as assigned
Requirements
  • Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • Previous experience administering early learning curriculum
  • Successful Criminal Reference Check, including vulnerable sectors (within 3 months of contract start date)
