The Salvation Army is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Housekeeper/Cleaner to join our team at the London Centre of Hope. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our premises, ensuring a welcoming environment for our clients and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure client belongings are stored, retrieved, and catalogued in accordance with procedures.
  • Complete all duties assigned to shifts in accordance with the position task list.
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.
  • Participate in bed bug checks and complete bagging and tagging procedures as required.
  • Promptly report any damage to property or equipment to the Environmental Services Director.
  • Assist with wellness checks as time permits.
  • Complete all duties in accordance with The Salvation Army's Standards and Policies & Procedures.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness and changes in policies and procedures.

Health and Safety:

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with security to identify any safety and security needs.
  • Responsible to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations.
  • Responsible to use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
  • Responsible to report workplace hazards and dangers.

Working Conditions:

Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a 1⁄2 hour paid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Minimum Secondary School Diploma.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • A minimum of two years' experience in a janitorial/maintenance related field.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Professional level of cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Demonstrates janitorial/maintenance skills at a professional level.
  • Capable of operating mechanized cleaning and maintenance equipment.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement.
  • Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Participate in mandatory orientation training, on-going professional development and training.
  • Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
  • Represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures and associated legislation.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
