Senior Research Associate I, Protein Engineering Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Associate I, Protein Engineering to join our team at Zymeworks. The successful candidate will be responsible for independently planning, performing, and optimizing purification workflows of multispecific antibody therapeutics using AKTA (FPLC) systems, gravity flow columns, and high-throughput plate-based methods.
- Develop and execute purification strategies to optimize antibody yields and purity
- Perform analytical and biophysical characterization of antibodies and other protein therapeutics for quality control, stability, and developability studies
- Plan, execute, and evaluate binding studies using SPR, BLI, Kinexa, and/or flow cytometry methods
- Analyze and review data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations for future investigations
- Initiate and execute novel methods and/or suggest innovative and impactful changes to methods
- Participate in cross-departmental collaborative activities and present data at departmental and project team meetings
- Maintain a clean, organized, and operational lab
- Conduct all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OH&S regulations, and established policies and practices
The ideal candidate will have a MSc in a relevant scientific discipline with 3-5 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Good working knowledge and hands-on experience in several of the following areas: protein purification, protein analytics, binding affinity measurements, and developability and stability assessments
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, fast-changing environment
- Good critical observation, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
- Good communication skills, including scientific/technical writing and oral skills
