ABOUT THE ROLELocated at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Light Vehicle Mechanic to become part of our Mobile Maintenance team, reporting to the Mine Maintenance Supervisor.
Detour Lake is recognized as the largest gold-producing mine in Canada, boasting significant gold reserves and considerable growth potential. The open-pit mine is situated in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometers northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometers by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The mine is located in the vicinity of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome, which yielded 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has an estimated mine life of around 22 years, with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces annually.
The Light Vehicle Mechanic will be tasked with ensuring optimal equipment availability by servicing and repairing all light-duty equipment in line with company standards and design specifications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESYour duties will encompass:
- Maintaining all light-duty vehicles and equipment in a dependable and safe operating condition.
- Conducting equipment testing, reporting deficiencies, performing timely inspections, preventative maintenance services, and quality repairs in accordance with work plans and maintenance schedules.
- Collaborating with the maintenance planning team to maintain parts inventory, ensuring optimal equipment availability.
- Building a strong working relationship with the operations team.
- Preparing electronic service reports and documentation accurately and promptly.
- Keeping a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
- Evaluating maintenance procedures and recommending improvements for enhanced effectiveness.
- Reporting safety issues to the supervisor and ensuring prompt resolution.
- Promoting a positive health, safety, and environmental culture along with the Internal Responsibility System.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
- Ontario Provincial/Inter-Provincial (Red Seal) Automotive Service Technician (310S) Certificate or Ontario Provincial/Inter-Provincial (Red Seal) Truck and Coach Technician (310T) Certificate is advantageous.
- A minimum of five years of experience working on mobile equipment in a mining environment.
- A demonstrated commitment to safe working practices.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with a focused and self-motivated approach.
- Experience working at a remote work site is considered an asset.
