We are seeking a skilled Field Service Technician to join our team at New Flyer. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of our diverse fleet of heavy-duty transit buses.
Key Responsibilities- Mechanical and Technical Support
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines and electric drivetrains.
- Perform drive line component maintenance, including transmissions and differentials.
- Maintain and repair engine and body accessories, including HVAC systems and suspension components.
- Conduct thorough inspections and repairs of braking systems and electrical systems.
- Perform installations and repairs of seating, steering components, and glass.
- Maintain and inspect high-voltage systems, battery packs, and electric drivetrains on electric buses.
- Field Service Responsibilities
- Provide on-site technical and mechanical support at various locations across Canada and the USA.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment, complete retrofits, and manage job logistics.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers, management, and co-workers.
- Investigate and report product issues, including those with supplier components.
- Assist with controlled testing of components and installations.
- Stay current with training on pertinent systems to provide top-level OEM support.
- Recommend improvements for technical bulletins and other publications.
- Resolve customer problems or complaints promptly and effectively.
- Work on special assignments as required.
- A minimum of five (5) years' work experience working in a similar position preferably with heavy-duty transit buses or heavy-duty trucks.
- Technical Expertise: Experience with diesel engines, driveline components, electrical systems, and electric vehicle maintenance. Familiarity with diagnostic devices such as DDEC, ATEC readers, and equipment diagnostics (e.g., Cummins Insite, DDDL, Allison DOC, Wabco Toolbox, Bendix ACOM).
- Tool Proficiency: Proficiency with shop tools, diagnostic devices, and equipment for assembly and repairs.
- Certification: Certified Truck & Coach Technician (310T), or currently pursuing certification, Red Seal Preferred. Additional certifications related to electric vehicles or advanced diagnostics are beneficial.
- Customer Service Skills: High level of professionalism with strong customer service skills, capable of interacting positively with clients.
- Problem-Solving Skills: High problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Organizational Skills: High organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed reports and logs.
- Travel Requirement: Willingness to travel 50% of the time, with a valid passport required.
