Environmental Sustainability Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Sustainability Coordinator to join our team at BGIS. As a key member of our environmental team, you will be responsible for coordinating environmental and health program processes and activities to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate environmental activities, including Legionella bacteria management, asbestos management, potable water quality, indoor air quality, and hazardous materials management.
- Act as the first point-of-contact for environmental and health inquiries and incidents.
- Provide guidance to team members on environmental and health matters and escalate inquiries as necessary.
- Coordinate the implementation of environmental, health, and safety programs, including related processes, procedures, and resources.
- Assist with health and safety activities, including OHS committee meetings, incident investigation and resolution, and emergency response procedures.
- Research and provide findings and recommendations on environmental, health, and safety matters.
- Maintain and assist with the creation of environmental, health, and safety documentation, including plans, processes, forms, logbooks, and procedures.
- Support construction activity teams by creating, distributing, verifying, and maintaining documentation, such as work instructions, checklists, and training materials.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities to mitigate environmental regulatory issues and health and safety concerns.
- Maintain business continuity and emergency management plans and procedures.
- Participate in field inspections, job observations, health, safety, and environment audits, and other types of reviews to monitor compliance and identify risks.
- Strong background in environmental management system development and administration, with knowledge of environmental regulations and environmental compliance auditing.
- Certification in one or more of the following: Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, Certificate in Environmental Management, or a University degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or Environmental Studies.
- 1-3 years of environmental, health, and safety work experience.
- Understanding of environmental, health, and safety regulatory requirements.
- Understanding of emergency management requirements.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple requirements simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Strong administrative skills, with the ability to maintain and report accurate data.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgment.
- Able to work independently, but provide strong support to the team as needed.
- Frequent trips to different sites in Gatineau-Ottawa.
- Driving license and vehicle asset.
Demonstrates an interest in attaining one or more of the following would be considered an asset:
- Environmental Professional Certification from Eco-Canada.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional from Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals.
- Certified Health & Safety Consultant from Canadian Society of Safety Engineering.
