Mental Health Specialist

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

A diploma in Community Social Services or a health-related field, such as Human Services, Mental Health, Life Skills & Career Development, or Practical Nursing is required.

A minimum of two (2) years of recent, relevant experience is essential.

Additional recognized post-basic education related to mental health and addiction, including training in Counseling Skills, is preferred. Familiarity with relevant legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and the Guardianship Act, along with knowledge of available community programs and their interconnections, is crucial.

Understanding of the local job market is beneficial; however, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered.

Current certification in Standard First Aid/CPR Level C is mandatory.

A Food Safe certificate is required.

A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is necessary.

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Capacity to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
