Chief Executive Officer

Birch Narrows Dene Development Inc. (BNDDI) is a business development arm of Birch Narrows Dene Nation (BNDN), a wholly-owned subsidiary. The company is governed by a Board of Directors, separate from Chief and Council. BNDDI is actively pursuing new investments and partnerships, growing an investment portfolio that will bring economic and employment benefits to BNDN. The company is well-positioned to capitalize on new business opportunities arising from industrial activity in the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the overall business strategy, ensuring alignment with BNDDI's mission to create economic opportunities while preserving cultural and environmental values.
  • Identify and create new investment opportunities and partnerships, including joint ventures and new companies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, including Indigenous communities, industry leaders, government agencies, and key stakeholders.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, including financial management, resource allocation, and operational efficiencies, to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Ensure that the benefits of BNDDI's ventures are directed back to the Birch Narrows Dene Nation community, including creating employment and training opportunities for community members.
  • Provide regular updates to the Board of Directors and shareholders (BNDN) ensuring transparency, accountability, and adherence to BNDDI's governance structure.
  • Implement and monitor strategies to mitigate operational, financial, and environmental risks in all business activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in senior leadership roles, preferably within Indigenous business development or economic development organizations.
  • Proven track record in managing large-scale projects and investments, particularly in industries such as mining and exploration, energy, and construction.
  • Strong understanding of environmental, social, and governance principles.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Indigenous leadership, ensuring cultural and community alignment.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges they face.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Birch Narrows Dene Nation in Northern Saskatchewan.
