Position OverviewThe Specialist in Reliability-Availability-Maintainability (RAM) is responsible for conducting RAM analysis and engineering to support I&T solutions. The primary objective is to guarantee that these solutions exhibit high levels of robustness, reliability, and availability. This encompasses system and product evaluations, modeling, and requirements analysis during the development phase, as well as the examination of field RAM data to establish solution RAM Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and to initiate corrective action programs.
Key Responsibilities- RAM Assessments for Solutions
- Evaluate and authorize solution requirements concerning RAM
- Identify non-functional requirements and performance targets for RAM
- Conduct analyses and modeling to forecast RAM behavior
- Comply with the I&T Development Process
- Field Performance Evaluation of Solutions
- Assign requirements to solutions and products to ensure they facilitate the measurement of RAM KPIs
- Utilize field performance metrics to pinpoint key contributors and implement corrective action plans as necessary
- Vendor Product RAM Evaluations
- Assess vendor specifications, testing outcomes, and analysis documentation
- Engage in failure review sessions for selected vendors
- Examine corrective action plans proposed by vendors
- Ensure the completion of vendor corrective action plans
- Leverage field performance data to identify key contributors and drive corrective action plans when required
- 5-10 years of overall professional experience
- 5 years of experience in RAM engineering for complex systems, or 7 years in product development for high reliability/availability, or safety-critical systems with accountability for product field performance
- Familiarity with hardware and/or software design and development practices focused on high reliability and availability applications
- Expertise in RAM analysis methodologies such as failure rate prediction, Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), Markov models, Monte Carlo simulations, Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
- Analysis of reliability and failure field data, statistical estimation, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Strong critical thinking and judgment skills
- Ability to quickly assimilate new information and apply it effectively
- Capacity to work independently and deliver results
- Skill in organizing work to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with equivalent experience
- Understanding of product design and standards within the rail industry
- Knowledge of operations in the rail or transportation industry
This role may involve occasional business travel within North America as per company policy.
This position is classified at a grade 9 level. For internal candidates, please note that the grade level may be adjusted based on the employee's experience.
