Job Overview

OBJECTIVE

The Warehouse Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing all operational activities within the warehouse. This role involves ensuring adherence to all departmental and corporate policies and objectives while providing leadership and support to warehouse personnel, including Clerks, Order Pickers, Shipper/Receivers, Material Handlers, and Contract Drivers. The supervisor will promote compliance with all applicable Federal, Provincial, and Municipal regulations, as well as industry best practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the receiving, distribution, and shipping processes within the warehouse.
  • Ensure compliance with monitoring systems and quality control programs.
  • Guide and assist Shipper/Receivers in their assigned tasks.
  • Organize and store incoming raw materials and products in the system.
  • Utilize the Warehouse Management System effectively to enhance productivity and maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Oversee stock transfers between facilities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to product receipt, movement, storage, and shipping, including verification of incoming shipments.
  • Compile and present Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to the Warehouse Manager, including root cause analysis and improvement suggestions.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support collective goals.
  • Take responsibility for scheduling, training, mentoring, and counseling warehouse staff.
  • Focus on continuous process improvement and analysis.
  • Ensure that warehouse equipment and control systems are functioning correctly and maintained according to internal and external standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of regulations and compliance related to cross-border and international transportation.
  • Strong understanding of industry compliance, including WHMIS, TDG, OHSA, WSIB, HACCP, ISO, and environmental standards.
  • Experience with EDI, ASN, and RF technology is essential.
  • Must be bondable and able to pass a security clearance.
  • Self-motivated, capable of multitasking, and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and ensure implementation of recommendations.
  • Investigate and report accidents or incidents within the Shipping Department and other areas as necessary.
  • First Aid certification is required.
  • Engage in both planned and unplanned management inspections.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment for all employees.
  • Complete annual WHMIS training and hold monthly safety meetings.
  • Ensure all necessary safety training is provided to staff.
  • Review daily inspection reports regularly to ensure compliance.
  • Attend health and safety training courses as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is required.
  • A post-secondary Certificate or Diploma in a related field is preferred.
  • Certified forklift operator (Counter-Balance, Narrow-Aisle reach truck).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a warehouse setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Experience in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) sector, particularly in food or cosmetics shipping, is preferred.
