About the Role

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Garden River First Nation Education Unit. This includes managing the organization's infrastructure, operational controls, performance measurement, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement business strategies to drive the organization forward.
  • Establish, evaluate, and enhance operational effectiveness, including operational compliance and controls.
  • Monitor changes in the portfolio's risk profile and investigate material shifts in risk.
  • Manage relationships with third-party providers, including the school custodian and data management provider.
  • Oversee and refine performance measurement and risk management systems.
  • Develop and enhance reporting tools to facilitate investment management and asset allocation selection process.
  • Work closely with the Finance Department on annual audit, budgeting, and rating agency reporting.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years related experience required.
  • Extensive working knowledge and demonstrated progressive experience of at least 15 years in investment or education operations with a focus on endowment management, asset management, finance, or related areas strongly preferred.
  • Operations, accounting, audit, risk management, or database development and programming experience in an investment or trading operation is preferred.
