Role Overview:
The Medical Radiological Technologist plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by providing essential clinical and technical support to medical professionals. This position involves conducting a variety of radiological examinations, including routine, emergency, and specialized procedures. The technologist will operate and maintain both stationary and mobile imaging equipment, ensuring high-quality digital images are produced for interpretation by physicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a range of radiological examinations, including fluoroscopy, under the guidance of a Radiologist or Physician.
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot imaging equipment, ensuring optimal functionality.
- Transmit digital images to the Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) for professional evaluation.
- Provide emergency callback services and support quality assurance programs.
- Engage in preventative maintenance testing of imaging equipment.
- Assist with administrative and clerical tasks as required.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in radiological techniques and procedures.
- Understanding of computed tomography (CT) and anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Familiarity with radiation physics and safety regulations.
- Experience with digital imaging equipment, including troubleshooting and adjustments.
- Knowledge of sterile techniques and infection control practices.
- Ability to recognize changes in patient conditions and respond appropriately.
- Innovative mindset to adapt procedures and equipment as necessary.
- Strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with colleagues and patients.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage workload and resolve issues.
- Commitment to staying updated with technological advancements in the field.
- Capability to train and orientate other healthcare professionals.
- Attention to detail and reliability in performing duties independently.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have completed an accredited program in Medical Radiation Technology, hold current registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) as a Radiological Technologist (MRT(R)), and possess current CPR certification. Experience with hospital and radiology information systems, as well as knowledge of Computed and Digital Radiography systems, PACS, and Computed Tomography, will be considered advantageous. A Bachelor’s degree in Radiation Science or Medical Imaging Technology is also beneficial.
