Position Overview

Job Code: 3-MRE-2024

Department: Developmental Services

Reports to: Program Supervisor

Work Hours: 37.5 hours/week

Contract Duration: Temporary

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with women and gender-diverse individuals in areas such as housing, legal support, education, employment, and mental health to create and maintain effective plans for achieving independence;
  • Conduct regular assessments of tenant needs and safety plans;
  • Utilize knowledge of trauma and gender-based violence dynamics to devise and implement supportive strategies;
  • Adhere to established rules, procedures, and standards, escalating issues to the supervisor as necessary;
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities and enter client information into an electronic data system for reporting and statistical purposes;
  • Engage with community agencies (e.g., courts, legal services, housing) to provide resources and referrals to tenants;
  • Offer systems navigation, crisis intervention, supportive counseling, referrals, and advocacy;
  • Facilitate workshops and programming focused on housing readiness (e.g., organization, safety planning, anger management);
  • Collaborate with Advocate and Peer Support teams to establish case plans and goals for clients;
  • Provide crisis intervention and counseling support for women and their children as required;
  • Uphold confidentiality when handling sensitive client, employee, and contract information;
  • Support the mission, vision, and values of YWCA Hamilton;
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Working Conditions:

  • Work 37.5 hours weekly in a temporary contract role, with availability for weekday, weekend, and evening shifts to accommodate tenant appointments and viewings;
  • Work environment may be unpredictable and crisis-oriented, often requiring resolution in emotionally charged situations.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a two-year college program in social work or human services, or equivalent experience;
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in crisis management and violence against women settings;
  • Familiarity with the Child and Family Services Act;
  • Knowledge of harm reduction strategies and training in naloxone administration is an asset;
  • Experience in trauma-informed care and familiarity with local resources and systems navigation;
  • Understanding of safety planning related to gender-based violence and mental health;
  • Experience in housing stability, housing-first principles, and eviction prevention is an asset;
  • NCI/CPI, ASSIST certificates are beneficial;
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Knowledge of social housing practices and relevant legislation;
  • Bilingual proficiency in English/French or other languages is an asset.
