We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Spare Education Assistant to join our team at School District #69 (Qualicum). As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional support to our students and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Assist professional staff in implementing programs with students, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Supervise students in the classroom, on school grounds, and on school day field trips, promoting a culture of respect and responsibility.
- Provide support for social emotional learning and peer-to-peer connections, referring students to counselors and child and youth care workers as needed.
- Assist with overnight school field trips, ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
- Support the food program, preparing and serving meals to students.
- Transport students on occasion, adhering to district policies and procedures.
- Assist with noon hour supervision, maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
- Prepare materials for students, as directed by classroom teachers or learning support staff.
- Provide instructional and functional curriculum support for students, as directed by professional staff.
- Support students using visual tools and augmentative communication devices.
- Provide personal care for students, under the supervision of professional staff.
- Assist in providing for the physical health and safety of students, as directed.
- Participate in professional development activities and training related to the position.
- Provide additional services as required, including medical care and non-violent crisis prevention management.
- Adhere to school rules and assist in diffusing potentially dangerous student behavior.
- Assist individual students when help is solicited.
- An Education Assistant and Community Support Program certificate or diploma from a recognized institution, including Introduction to Autism Course (30 hours) from the Provincial Outreach Program for Autism and Related Disorders (POPARD), or equivalent.
- Current CPI certification.
- May need level 1 Food Safe Certification.
- May need a class 5 BC driver's license.
- Ability to follow directions and work as a member of the educational team.
- Ability to work effectively with students.
- Preferred minimum of six months successful experience working in a related field.
- Training and/or experience in using technology to support student learning.
- Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate.
- Specialized curricular knowledge may be required, e.g. high school level math or science, working knowledge of shops, or fluency in a second language.
