Laboratory Technician

Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing laboratory procedures in accordance with departmental and divisional policies. This includes phlebotomy, ECG, specimen processing, and patient reception. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the safe handling and packaging of laboratory specimens, be competent in the performance of ECG and blood collection, and have the ability to perform assigned tasks, write legibly, and accurately record lab information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, sort, and prepare specimens for testing and referral
  • Receive patients, staff, and visitors to the laboratory
  • Perform blood collection (venipunctures and capillary punctures) and ECGs
  • Enter information into the lab computer and generate reports and work lists
  • Handle and distribute reports, record sheets, and specimens

Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • OSMT/CSMLS Certification or equivalent
  • Hospital experience preferred
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset
