The Director of Quality Engineering is responsible for leading a team of Quality Engineers and Senior Quality Engineers to deliver effective quality strategies and outcomes. This role involves developing and overseeing a continuous improvement program aimed at enhancing quality, consistency, and customer satisfaction. The director will enable Product Teams to adopt and implement a Quality Engineering (QE) mindset, particularly as the organization transitions to Agile methodologies.

This position will champion QE principles, focusing on automation and ongoing improvement to accelerate product development. The director will drive the creation and adoption of automated testing processes to enhance innovation, quality, and speed to market.

Collaboration with both vendor and internal teams is essential to provide leadership, strategy, and coordination of all testing activities, ensuring quality standards are consistently met while promoting automation and aligning impacted groups across the organization.

Expert guidance on test environment strategy, setup, and configuration will be provided, alongside coordination with Product teams and Software Development Engineers in Test (SDET) to establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics in accordance with QE guidelines.

Working closely with Platform teams, the director will ensure that testing tools meet required standards and assist in implementing new solutions as necessary. The role also involves ensuring that integration and end-to-end test cases are identified and maintained effectively.

Additionally, the director will evaluate QE-related vendors and engage external resources to assess existing processes while remaining informed about emerging trends in software testing.

Responsibilities include managing teams of Senior Quality Engineers who deliver QE services directly to development teams, fostering relationships with QE product vendors and service providers to oversee delivery workloads.

Key deliverables include Quality Engineering Strategies, Test Strategies, Test Implementation Plans, and presentations to senior management.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of IT leadership experience with a strong technical background and customer-oriented approach.
  • Direct management experience of cross-functional or offshore teams.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development and test engineering, with expertise in various testing methodologies.
  • Proficient in engaging technical architecture, engineering, and operations teams to drive QE automation outcomes.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools (e.g., Git, JIRA, Ant, Maven, Jenkins) and Test Automation.
  • Experience in financial management, including budget oversight and cost estimation.
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent experience/certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree.
  • Technical certifications (e.g., Quality Leadership).
  • Ability to mentor and coach QE team members on Quality Engineering tasks and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to relay opportunities for quality improvement to Application Development leaders.
  • Expertise in establishing workflows within the Quality Engineering domain.
  • Development of best practice quality procedures.
  • Leadership in quality inspections and complex quantitative and qualitative analyses for automated testing processes.
  • Negotiation and direction of enabling tooling implementation (e.g., Tosca, NeoLoad, Cucumber).
  • Facilitation of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) using the DevOps pipeline.
  • Coordination with IT and vendor relations teams for optimal collaboration.
  • Collaboration with Operations and Infrastructure teams for deployment and production support.
