Position Overview
The Heavy Equipment Operator plays a crucial role within a skilled construction team, ensuring the successful execution of projects in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and relevant codes while upholding high standards of quality and safety in the workplace. This position is accountable for the proficient and secure operation of a variety of heavy machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy machinery safely and effectively in compliance with applicable legislation, policies, procedures, and work plans.
- Conduct daily safety inspections and maintenance checks on equipment.
- Clean heavy machinery as per the schedule or as needed.
- Ensure that heavy equipment is stored safely and securely.
- Notify the Superintendent or maintenance team regarding any maintenance or repair needs.
- Participate in routine fueling and maintenance tasks.
- Adhere to workplace safety protocols.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
- Heavy equipment operation may encompass Dozers, Graders, Backhoe Loaders, Excavators, Loaders, Skid Steers, and Packers.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in heavy equipment operation.
- Ability to interpret grade stakes and perform tasks such as clearing, grubbing, stripping, excavating, backfilling, ditching, and stockpiling.
- Competence in cutting and spreading materials.
- Proficient in excavating, stockpiling, backfilling, and loading with a loader.
- Capable of constructing berms, excavating side hills, and finishing side slopes.
- Skilled in grading to final specifications, finishing slopes, and mixing soil stabilization materials using a grader.
- Experience in surface and drainage maintenance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Background in a construction environment or similar role.
- Familiarity with construction terminology and practices.
- Effective verbal and listening communication skills.
- Ability to comprehend and execute verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Commitment to adhering to company Health, Safety, & Environmental reporting and standards.
- Possession of a valid driver's license is essential.
