Métis Family Resource Adoptions Specialist

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Position Status: Full-time (40 hours/week) Permanent Position

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is seeking a dedicated Métis Family Resource Adoptions Specialist (MFRAS). Reporting to the Métis Family Resource Program Manager within the Children and Family Services department, the selected individual will facilitate the registration process for adopted individuals pursuing Métis citizenship. The MFRAS will serve as a guide and intermediary between various provincial entities, including Vital Statistics and Records & Registry departments, and the applicants, assisting them in acquiring essential birth documents and adoption packages necessary for MNA citizenship, while also providing trauma-informed support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a guide and intermediary between provincial bodies and applicants.
  • Advocate for applicants facing challenges in obtaining vital birth documents due to historical factors such as residential schools or adoption restrictions.
  • Manage the Otipemisiwak Métis Government registration process, including document requests, data entry, and application processing.
  • Provide trauma-informed assistance to applicants receiving sensitive information.
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper management of protected documents.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of Otipemisiwak Métis Government programs for effective referrals.
  • Complete administrative tasks, projects, and attend necessary meetings.
  • Represent the Children and Family Services Department in community events and engagements.
  • Contribute to departmental planning initiatives.
  • Support other initiatives within Otipemisiwak Métis Government's Children's Services and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Social Services or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in the Human Services sector.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation, including the Child and Youth Enhancement Act.
  • Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Willingness to travel within Alberta as needed.
  • Possession of a Class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Completion of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and a Child Intervention Record Check is mandatory.
