Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facility Operations Specialist to join our team at the Chinook School Division No. 211. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and clean learning environment, ensuring the integrity of the building, and providing supervision and support to facility assistants and custodians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the facility's physical plant, including performing general maintenance, repairs, and minor interior and exterior work.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the facility, including daily cleaning, disinfecting, dusting, washing, polishing, and scrubbing.
  • Provide supervision, support, and direction to facility assistants and custodians, including training and day-to-day work assignments.
  • Perform tasks related to plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations, including WHMIS training and first aid/CPR certification.
  • Collaborate with the school administration and staff to ensure a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements
  • Fifth Class Engineering certificate or equivalent.
  • Certification according to code for the facility (Fireman's Boiler Certificate, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS Training).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning industry and current practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building maintenance procedures, tools, and equipment.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment.
  • Previous experience in building maintenance, including minor interior and exterior repairs/maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems.
  • Previous experience performing daily cleaning, disinfecting, dusting, washing, polishing, and scrubbing.
  • Strong background and knowledge of safe workplace practices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to deal with a broad range of students, staff, and members of the general public.
  • Good physical condition, including the ability to lift or exert up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly.
