Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct power system analyses, including load flow, short circuit, harmonics, arc flash, insulation coordination, grounding, dynamic stability, and transient stability.
  • Evaluate interconnection projects to ensure compliance with grid codes.
  • Create detailed protection studies and corresponding relay settings, collaborating with field-testing teams for implementation.
  • Lead and develop electrical engineering designs, including single line diagrams, metering and relaying schematics, calculations, and conceptual designs, adhering to established methods and project principles.
  • Review engineering and design documents prepared by engineers and designers as necessary for project requirements.
  • Integrate new designs into complex existing environments.
  • Mentor junior engineers, ensuring a thorough understanding of design standards, engineering codes, and guidelines, while providing guidance and recommendations.
  • Work closely with client technical leaders to ensure effective coordination.
  • Travel to client sites to lead technical interventions, prioritizing client operational integrity.

Qualifications:

  • A graduate degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in electrical power or electrical engineering, or a B.Sc. with relevant experience.
  • Professional engineer registration or eligibility for registration in British Columbia.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with system analysis tools such as PSS/E, ETAP, EMTP, PSCAD, CDEGS, CYME, ASPEN, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of IEEE and IEC power system standards.
  • Expertise in North American high voltage substation standards and equipment, with the ability to develop design packages with limited specifications.
  • Knowledge of design calculations for primary and secondary equipment, including battery sizing, transformer selection, circuit protection, and lightning protection.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with substation apparatus testing and construction practices.
  • Field testing and commissioning experience with protection relays.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 in protection system design.
  • Experience in transmission and distribution line design.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages for power system studies.
