Position Overview:

The University of Toronto is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Sessional Lecturer within the Faculty of Arts & Science. This role involves teaching a specialized course focused on European governance and policy, providing students with a unique experiential learning opportunity.

Course Details:

Course Title: GLA2096H European Governance and Policy Experiential Course

Course Synopsis: Selected students will engage in an immersive experience in Brussels, Belgium, during the winter reading week. Participants will be tasked with composing a policy paper that explores topics related to European governance and policy. This includes conducting interviews with EU officials to enrich their research and analysis.

Enrollment and Support:

Expected Student Enrollment: 15

Teaching Assistant Support: Not applicable

Class Schedule: February 17-21

Delivery Method: Currently planned as in-person, subject to change based on institutional guidelines.

Appointment Duration: January 1 to April 30, 2025

Compensation:

Compensation varies based on experience and qualifications:

  • Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90
  • Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $9,930.80
  • Sessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77
  • Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $10,326.62
  • Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76
  • Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $10,570.02

Please note that compensation rates are subject to the collective agreement provisions.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor's Degree in international relations or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Relevant professional experience in European affairs, established connections with EU officials, and the ability to travel to Brussels during the winter reading week.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Selecting students for the course
  • Facilitating meetings with EU officials
  • Organizing networking events with EU representatives
  • Evaluating final policy papers

Preference in hiring will be given to qualified individuals who have advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III.

Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are not eligible to apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
