Electrical Substation Design Engineer Opportunity

Wood is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Substation Design Engineer to join our team in Calgary, AB or Vancouver, BC. As a key member of our Stations Electrical Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing high voltage substation projects from conception to construction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design electrical systems for high voltage substations, ensuring compliance with regulatory codes and standards.
  • Collaborate with structural and protection & control engineering disciplines to ensure seamless design integration.
  • Develop and implement outage planning, construction sequencing, and commissioning strategies.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to project teams, ensuring high-quality design deliverables.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices, applying knowledge to improve design efficiency and effectiveness.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Canadian Professional Engineering Designation (or ability to register as a Professional Engineer with EGBC).
  • North American power utility design experience is considered an asset.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States is considered an asset.
  • 8-12 years of substation electrical experience in a Transmission & Distribution Utility or EPC organization designing substations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory codes and standards, including CSA, NESC, and ANSI / IEEE.
