Job Summary

The Literacy Resource Teacher will provide expert guidance and support to teachers and students in improving literacy pedagogy and student outcomes. This role will contribute to the school's commitment to preparing students for success in literacy and student retention activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide advice and support to teachers on best practices in literacy instruction to increase student expectations and performance.
  • Work with teachers and parents to identify key skills and strategies for improving literacy and student performance in reading and writing.
  • Support classroom teachers in addressing literacy learning for students with reading and writing difficulties.
  • Assist in organizing and developing literacy materials and assessments.
  • Support the school in improving teacher preparation, training, and professional development in literacy.
Qualifications

A valid Teacher Certificate from a province in Canada equivalent to an O.T.C. B.A., B.S., B. Ed. or other university degree is required. Additional qualifications such as Reading Specialist, FNMI Peoples: Understanding Traditional Teachings, Histories, Current Issues and Cultures, and Special Education part I are preferred.

Requirements

Expert level written and oral communication skills, demonstrated initiative and skills in relationship and community building, educational leadership, communication, conflict resolution, creativity, problem solving, decision-making, and time management are essential.
