As a vital member of our healthcare team, Pharmacy Assistants operate under the guidance of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists, contributing to the efficient delivery of medication services.

In collaboration with the Operations Manager, Pharmacy Assistants undertake key responsibilities within our Pharmacy Services Program, focusing on medication management tasks that include but are not limited to:

timely selection and replenishment of medications to meet established quotas, transportation and delivery of medications to various departments, repackaging and labeling for final verification by licensed healthcare professionals, managing inventory transactions including controlled substances, ensuring proper rotation of stock to prevent expiration, and handling the ordering and receiving of supplies and medications. Professionalism and effective communication are essential in maintaining a collaborative work environment, alongside clerical responsibilities as assigned.

Regular cleaning and maintenance of pharmacy equipment is required to uphold a safe and organized workspace. You will also prepare reports using pharmacy systems and communicate any unit-based or clinical issues to the appropriate pharmacy staff for resolution. Participation in departmental quality assurance activities is expected to ensure compliance with established standards. Additionally, you may assist in the training of new staff or students as necessary. Other duties may be assigned as needed. In the role of Pharmacy Assistant, you will oversee the packaging, distribution, and management of medication inventory levels, all while working under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Recent experience in a hospital pharmacy setting, familiarity with pharmaceutical terminology and medication names, proficiency with EPIC (Willow Pharmacy) and Windows-based software. Basic understanding of inventory management practices, including minimizing expired medications. Graduation from a recognized pharmacy assistant program or relevant retail pharmacy experience may be considered. Fluency in English (both written and verbal) is required, along with typing skills (40 words per minute desired). Strong communication, interpersonal, and time management skills are essential. Ability to follow both oral and written instructions is necessary. Good organizational skills, problem-solving capabilities, and decision-making abilities are expected. A professional demeanor, including tact, courtesy, discretion, and respect for confidentiality, is crucial.

Must be able to perform tasks and work:

under direct supervision, receptive to constructive feedback, accurate, punctual, reliable, cooperative, and self-motivated to improve existing processes that enhance patient care.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting is essential. Adaptability to learn and efficiently use new technologies, software, and changing workflows is required.

Physical fitness is necessary as the majority of the shift involves:

typing, maintaining static positions, heavy lifting, standing, crouching, bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods.


Preferred Qualifications:


1+ year of experience in a rural hospital pharmacy supporting remote sites, EPIC training and experience, familiarity with Omnicell Automated Dispensing Cabinets, and experience in inventory management, including controlled substances and repackaging.
