Role Summary

In this position, you will offer guidance and expertise on optimal portfolio management practices, connecting strategic concepts of trading and portfolio rebalancing. Your role will involve assisting teams in making informed decisions and analyzing business operations related to discretionary programs at RBC Dominion Securities. You will support software applications associated with discretionary platforms, aiming to identify solutions that mitigate trading errors and foster business scalability.

Your Responsibilities

  • Engage in individual consultations with both discretionary and non-discretionary teams to explore their investment philosophies and execution strategies.
  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with both new and existing Portfolio Managers (discretionary licensed Investment Advisors) and their respective teams within Dominion Securities.
  • Discuss best practices concerning Investment Policy Statements, asset allocation monitoring, quarterly evaluations, review methodologies, service plans, and more to streamline their investment operations.
  • Assist in preparing advisors' portfolios for modeling and ongoing management for new clients, including handling multiple legal registrations within households, client withdrawals or deposits, and changes in asset allocation.
  • Support new hires and competitive recruits in familiarizing themselves with trading and modeling platforms (TradeLink, ClientLink, A+ Desktop, TAC).
  • Aid teams in adjusting their investment management philosophies as needed and collaborate with the Managed Solutions Group, Portfolio Overlay Team, and Portfolio Advisory Group to gather insights for enhancing modeling and portfolio management.
  • Establish the foundation for scalable Unified Managed Household tools (A+) for both discretionary and non-discretionary advisors.
  • Specifically for ClientLink modeling, assist discretionary and advisory teams with various aspects of portfolio management: creating models, linking portfolios, generating trade lists, and addressing exceptions in client accounts.
  • Provide guidance on handling daily transactions such as withdrawals, deposits, and currency conversions, and assist in preparing their portfolios for modeling and bulk trading, along with training on integrating into our discretionary platform.

Qualifications for Success

Essential Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in the financial services sector, ideally with Dominion Securities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills (empathetic listener, coach, and negotiator) along with strong communication and presentation abilities. Comfortable in engaging with new individuals and building relationships.
  • Motivated, eager to learn, and thrives in a high-performance setting.
  • CFA Level 1 or CIM, or a solid and proven understanding of discretionary money management.
  • Willingness to travel (a mix of day trips or flights) for an average of two weeks per month, often for one to four days at a time, with some overnight travel necessary.
  • Advanced proficiency in computer skills, particularly in Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in French (both spoken and written).
  • An ideal candidate would have experience in a Dominion Securities Retail branch environment, preferably with a discretionary team (3+ years' experience) encompassing processes, technology, products, and services. Familiarity with portfolio management concepts and techniques is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze, prioritize, and adapt to multiple demands. Strong problem-solving skills and a customer service focus are essential.
  • Must excel at managing change in both team and independent environments.
  • Enjoys travel for work.
