Key Responsibilities:The Kitchen Associate is responsible for preparing and delivering wholesome meals as per the established menus while adhering to relevant food safety and service standards.
PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Leading and participating in meal preparation, cooking, and serving for community meal programs.
- Ensuring all food items are prepared and served according to established recipes and portion control guidelines.
- Creating and serving visually appealing and nutritious meals in line with the planned menus and dietary guidelines.
- Adjusting work methods within set parameters to guarantee efficient food service delivery.
- Utilizing resources effectively, including donations, to reduce waste.
- Maintaining an ongoing inventory of food supplies and communicating needs to management.
- Properly storing and labeling leftover food; rotating stock to prioritize older items.
- Providing guidance and oversight to volunteers in kitchen and pantry operations.
- Recording daily temperature checks for refrigeration units.
- Ensuring cleanliness of all kitchen equipment, storage areas, and food preparation surfaces.
- Adhering to safety and security protocols for food and equipment, while monitoring compliance.
- Working in accordance with health and safety regulations and the organization's policies.
- Carrying out additional related tasks as necessary.
This is a temporary part-time position with a maximum of 24 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is essential, and hours may vary weekly. Candidates should be able to lift and move items exceeding 20 lbs.
Qualifications:Completion of Secondary School is required. Safe Food Handling Certification is necessary, and a culinary diploma or one-year cooking course is preferred.
Experience:A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required. Familiarity with meal planning within budget constraints and understanding the nutritional needs of vulnerable populations is essential.
Skills:Strong organizational and time management abilities are crucial. Candidates should be self-motivated, disciplined, and possess a high level of integrity and confidentiality. Proficiency in operating standard kitchen equipment and attention to detail are necessary.
