Lead Surveyor / Field Operations Chief

Position Overview:

Integrated ProAction is actively looking for experienced Survey Party Chiefs to join our team and contribute to various projects across British Columbia. Reporting directly to the Survey Manager, the ideal candidate will oversee field survey operations in sectors such as construction, pipeline, oil and gas, land development, and legal land surveying. We leverage cutting-edge technology, including RTK GPS (Trimble), Total Stations, and RTK UAV, to enhance our surveying capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and execute field survey tasks with the assistance of Survey Assistants.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to synchronize field survey activities, manage project budgets, timelines, priorities, and survey methodologies.
  • Serve as a company representative, engaging directly with client field representatives and landowners.
  • Prepare and present field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in formats required by Project Managers, Land Surveyors, and Drafting teams.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and support to Survey Assistants working alongside you.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, enhancing field processes and procedures, and the innovative application of new technologies.
  • Actively engage in and support the advancement of the Integrated ProAction safety program.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a degree from a recognized post-secondary program in surveying and geomatics or equivalent relevant experience. Additionally, you should have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Survey Party Chief role is preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of surveying equipment and software, including GPS and Total Stations.
  • Familiarity with Trimble equipment and software, as well as line locating, is advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities in field environments.
  • Experience in pipeline construction surveying is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to produce clear and accurate field notes.
  • The capability to develop, motivate, and mentor junior survey staff while fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • A proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience operating ATVs/UTVs and snowmobiles is considered an asset.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Completion of training and valid certifications in First Aid, H2S, CSTS/PSTS safety training, locates, and TMEP/CGL orientations is advantageous.
  • This position is safety-sensitive and subject to pre-access drug and alcohol testing in accordance with internal and client policies.

Required Experience:

  • Surveying / Survey Party Chief experience of 5+ years preferred, along with a combination of education (certificate/diploma/degree in geomatics or engineering) and relevant work experience.
