Job Title: Elementary Teacher

We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Elementary Teacher to join our team at the Liard First Nation School. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching students in grades K4-2 and will have a strong understanding of early learning pedagogy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach students in grades K4-2 and develop lesson plans that meet the needs of all learners
  • Implement restorative practices and positive behavioral interventions to create a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with the Liard First Nation government, Daylu Dena Council Educational Support Workers, community Elders, and families to promote greater community involvement in school-based activities and educational programming
  • Develop and implement project-based learning to support curriculum outcomes and integrate on-the-land curriculum
  • Use science of reading approaches to literacy and develop student learning plans, behaviour plans, safety plans, and individual education plans
  • Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers to establish cooperative and authentic connections to support the best school experience possible
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent
  • Experience teaching in a primary classroom (grades K4-2)
  • Understanding of and experience delivering early learning pedagogy
  • Experience teaching in a multi-grade class is an asset
  • Experience integrating self-regulation and social-emotional care practices in the classroom is an asset
  • Experience working with Indigenous learners in a culturally diverse community is an asset
Desired Qualities:
  • Eagerness to learn about and integrate Liard First Nation culture and worldview, and the Dene language in the classroom
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain an authentic relationship with the Liard First Nation government, Daylu Dena Council Educational Support Workers, community Elders, and families
  • Keenness to live, work, and participate as an active member of the Watson Lake community
  • Strong classroom management, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate learners
  • Solid understanding of a philosophy of inclusive education, excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, coaches, the First Nation School Board, and other partners
