Clinical Externship

The Clinical Extern role at Halton Healthcare is a transitional opportunity for nursing students to gain hands-on experience, develop clinical expertise, and enhance their collaboration and communication skills.

• Assist with basic clinical tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse in a team-based model of care.
• Participate in patient assessments and contribute to the overall patient care experience.
• Support the Care Team with bathing, hygiene, and personal care, as well as other tasks such as turning and repositioning patients.
• Assist with feeding patients, set up meals, and provide information about the room and unit routines.
• Contribute to the TOA (includes Bedside Report) and orientate patients and family to the emergency department environment.

• Baccalaureate Nursing Program (RN) in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study or Practical Nursing Program in final year of study.
• Completed recent clinical placement at Halton Healthcare preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to complete patient care tasks as directed and multitask with proven organizational skills.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

Hours of work: Various rotating shifts (scheduling will be determined based on unit needs and may include day/evening/night and weekend shifts).

Offering Extern positions in various clinical areas at our 3 sites (temporary full-time and temporary part-time available from May to August).
