The Meadow Lake Tribal Council is seeking a compassionate and motivated individual to fill the full-time, permanent position of Counselor at the Mistahey Musqua Treatment Centre in Loon Lake, SK.
Job SummaryUnder the direction of the MMTC Manager, the Counselor will assess client needs and provide support, including crisis and distress counseling, client case management, and developing/implementing client programs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide one-on-one counseling to clients and document all counseling sessions.
- Ensure proper care of clients, develop safe plans, follow-up, and aftercare plans.
- Record and file appropriate information into client files.
- Facilitate group lectures and discussions.
- Ensure client safety and security of the building.
- Adhere to Treatment Centre guidelines and regulations.
- Perform other duties as directed by the MMTC Manager.
- Basic knowledge of case-work/counseling.
- Demonstrated experience in treatment center counseling programs.
- Willingness to obtain certification as an Addictions Counsellor from a recognized Canadian Certification body.
- 1-3 years' experience in an Indigenous addiction treatment setting.
- Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in the social or behavioral sciences (human services, counseling, psychology, social work, or relevant field).
- Knowledge of and willingness to actively support traditional healing practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of the links between alcohol/addictions treatment and health issues at the First Nation community level.
- Knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values with the ability to speak Cree or Dene.
- Must lead a life of sobriety and be free of addictions.
- CPR & First Aid Training.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
