Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Principal to lead our elementary school in the Yukon Territory. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for education, and a commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide instructional leadership and supervision to teachers and staff
  • Develop and implement effective educational programs and policies
  • Assess and respond to student needs in social/emotional domains, life skills, and behavior support
  • Work collaboratively with First Nation students and communities to promote cultural understanding and awareness
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with parents, staff, and community members
  • Implement restorative practices and positive behavioral interventions and supports
  • Support and implement enhanced programming in the K-12 curriculum
  • Communicate effectively with parents and community members to promote community involvement and engagement
Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Education or equivalent in educational administration and/or elementary curriculum
  • Experience as an educational leader, providing instructional leadership, supervision, and mentorship
  • Strong leadership skills, demonstrated ability to motivate teachers and create a collaborative team
  • Philosophy of inclusive education and excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with White River First Nation Government, Educational Support Workers, community Elders, and families
  • Ability to implement effective support systems to assist at-risk students
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of the needs of both elementary and high school learners
  • Ability to support and implement enhanced programming in the K-12 curriculum
  • Strong communication and engagement skills, promoting community involvement in school-based activities
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with First Nation students and communities
  • Ability to learn the Upper Tanana language and gain understanding of White River First Nation culture
  • Desire and passion for developing and maintaining strong and respectful relationships and trust with students, their families, and the community
