Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with Art Directors to assist Environment artists in achieving high-quality environments while maintaining a holistic view of the project.
- Provide guidance to artists and work alongside project managers to establish budgets, define project scopes, set deadlines, and prioritize tasks to ensure timely delivery without compromising quality.
- Support the ongoing development and daily activities of team artists.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members, offering mentorship, constructive feedback, and career guidance.
- Evaluate and enhance environments sourced externally, ensuring they meet established quality standards.
- Work in partnership with leads from various disciplines to create visually stunning environments that also adhere to technical specifications, prioritizing gameplay experience.
- Delegate tasks as necessary while fostering a sense of ownership among team members, empowering artists to take control of their work.
- Engage with external and remote teams, including usability partners, to consistently communicate and uphold the artistic vision.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to question and refine production processes, ensuring clarity for the team.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience leading an environment art team.
- Proven track record of shipping one or more AAA games across multiple platforms.
- An artistic sensibility that enables you to maximize the potential of your team through effective feedback and support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a talent for building relationships across various levels of seniority and aiding career development.
- Proficiency in backlog management, organizational skills, and the ability to scope projects within deadlines and constraints.
- Capability to manage team workloads through strategic planning and delegation without direct oversight.
- Extensive experience in environment art workflows, including asset placement, level design, photogrammetry, and PBR texturing, with a willingness to consult specialists for advanced knowledge.
- A solid understanding of environmental aesthetics, the interplay between function and form, and the elements that contribute to engaging game levels.
- In-depth knowledge of architecture and natural environments.
- Proficient in software such as Maya, Substance Painter, and other relevant 2D/3D tools.
- Comprehensive understanding of the environment production process, with a desire to collaborate with stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency.
- Flexibility and adaptability to assume new roles and responsibilities as the team evolves, demonstrating a commitment to innovation in the dynamic landscape of game development.
