ROLE: INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN
The Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the safe repair, maintenance, calibration, adjustment, and installation of industrial measurement and control instruments across the mining and milling operations. This role involves close collaboration with the team to ensure the effective execution of operational plans and schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Area 1:
- Safely manage the repair, maintenance, calibration, adjustment, and installation of industrial measurement and control instruments throughout the mining and milling operations.
- Refer to manufacturer manuals, circuit diagrams, and blueprints to determine testing and maintenance procedures for instruments measuring and controlling various parameters.
- Interpret control schematics, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and process flow diagrams.
- Inspect and test instrument and system operations to diagnose faults using pneumatic, electrical, and electronic testing devices.
- Repair and adjust system components, including sensors, transmitters, and programmable logic controllers, or replace defective parts as necessary.
- Calibrate instruments according to manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance and complete relevant reports.
- Implement preventive maintenance programs and maintain records using the maintenance management system.
- Document all work orders and additional repairs performed.
- Install control and measurement instruments on both existing and new equipment.
- Perform detailed teardown and repair of control valves, actuators, and positioners, ensuring proper reassembly and tuning.
- Consult with and provide guidance to process operators and control technicians.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area, addressing unsafe conditions promptly.
- Identify and anticipate potential issues, offering recommendations for solutions.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained in accordance with health and safety standards.

Operational Excellence
- Commit to ongoing learning and improvement.
- Continuously seek to enhance skills as an instrumentation technician.
- Identify inefficiencies or problems and communicate them effectively.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Consider risk across five dimensions: throughput, time, quality, sustainability, and cost.
Area 3:
Collaboration for Operational Reliability
- Coordinate with team members to achieve shift objectives.
- Mentor and train new team members.
- Contribute expertise to team efforts.
- Communicate effectively using provided tools.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of equipment and shift logs.
- Report deficiencies to appropriate team members for follow-up.
- Engage in multidisciplinary teams to fulfill commitments to stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications and Preferred Skills
- College diploma in electrical and/or instrumentation technology or a related field.
- Preferred: Ontario Provincial or Inter-Provincial Instrumentation Technician License.
- Apprentices may be considered based on business and legislative requirements.
Work Experience
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in open-pit mining or mineral processing, particularly gold processing, is advantageous.
- Proficiency in computer applications and maintenance software.
- Effective communication skills.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Capable of performing under pressure.
