Contract Duration
This position is a paid contract opportunity. Candidates should be aware that the initial term is set for a defined period, with the possibility of extension based on project needs.
Role Overview
As a Junior Machine Learning Engineer, you will engage in impactful public sector machine learning initiatives, delivering tangible solutions to our partners, including various government departments. Our mission at GovLab AI is to exemplify how the public sector can be transformed through the application of AI, fostering the development of in-demand machine learning and AI competencies.
Our program is uniquely designed to provide hands-on experience, preparing you for future professional endeavors. Throughout the contract, you will be integrated into a team tasked with addressing specific use cases identified by our public sector partners. You will utilize various tools and gain exposure to multiple AI/ML and data processing domains. Additionally, you will receive resources and mentorship aimed at facilitating your growth and career progression. Teams will operate under the guidance of the Project Delivery Manager, employing AltaML methodologies to produce viable models and offer recommendations for implementation.
What You Will Do:
- Engage in collaborative planning sessions and educational workshops.
- Analyze data to comprehend its structure and scope.
- Identify appropriate metrics to evaluate model and project success.
- Collaborate with team members to prepare data for analysis and model creation.
- Discover trends and insights to inform the application of machine learning solutions.
- Develop models based on available data and defined problem sets.
- Create proof-of-concept models for viable use cases.
- Propose innovative solutions and detailed recommendations for model integration into business processes.
- Communicate and present team findings to AltaML and public sector partners.
- Gain familiarity with various data processing tools and AI/ML algorithms.
- Conduct independent research and connect with peers to enhance domain knowledge and learn cutting-edge techniques.
Qualifications:
- Essential:
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree program at a recognized institution.
- Basic understanding of Python and experience with data science libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, and matplotlib.
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts and software development principles.
- Availability to commit to a full-time schedule during the internship.
- Preferred:
- Experience with version control systems like Git.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong communication skills, capable of engaging in client discussions and delivering professional presentations.
