Job Summary:

The City of Thunder Bay is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious individual to serve as a School Crossing Guard. As a vital member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe passage of children across designated school crossings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Control traffic flow and enforce traffic regulations to guarantee safe crossing of school children at designated roadways.
  • Document incidents and report them to your supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Utilize and wear all required safety equipment and attire.
  • Adhere to the Highway Traffic Act, Health and Safety Act, and City policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Ability to comprehend the Highway Traffic Act and written instructions/procedures.
  • Capacity to stand outdoors for up to one and a half hours in any weather condition and be physically capable of quick movement in case of an emergency.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.

Terms of Employment:

  • Part-time position
  • Must be available to work split shifts during the school day, between 8:00-9:00 am and 2:00-4:00 pm

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must successfully undergo a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Must successfully undergo a work fitness test as required by the Corporation
  • Must meet Ministry of Transportation Vision Standards with respect to visual acuity and horizontal visual field ('G' Class)
  • Must execute an employment contract
  • Must be able to travel to various locations throughout the City, as required
