Social Work Educator, Indigenous Health Program

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, assess, and refine educational initiatives, curricula, and resources pertaining to Social Work principles, interventions, skills, and competencies, grounded in clinical evidence and educational theory. Collaborate with Allied Health Practice Leaders and Education leaders to pinpoint specific educational needs within the Social Work community. Ensure that all content is current, evidence-based, and reflects best practices.
  • Facilitate training sessions for Social Work professionals and students to ensure adherence to regional and provincial clinical practice guidelines. Employ change management strategies to assist staff in adapting to new Social Work methodologies, ensuring effective and safe implementation. Assess the effectiveness of educational programs and learning outcomes to verify the achievement of clinical objectives and the demonstration of best practices.
  • Coordinate and deliver orientation programs for new Social Work staff and students, ensuring familiarity with practice standards, clinical guidelines, and educational resources. Continuously review and update orientation materials to maintain accuracy and relevance, ensuring completion within designated timeframes.
  • Provide learner-focused education post-orientation through teaching, coaching, mentoring, and facilitating sessions on clinical topics, utilizing both in-person and digital platforms. Develop and evaluate instructional materials, plan educational activities, and maintain records of training effectiveness based on participant feedback.
  • Serve as a clinical role model and resource for staff, offering consultation on complex practice issues and demonstrating clinical expertise. Review and integrate findings from technical literature into educational content. Engage with other professionals and participate in relevant educational opportunities to stay informed about current developments and enhance service quality. Actively encourage continuous professional development among staff.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of four years of relevant Social Work experience across various practice areas, including mentoring, teaching, and educational material development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.

Skills & Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of organizational policies, legislation, and standards of care.
  • Extensive knowledge of Social Work theory and practice within a client-centered care model.
  • Familiarity with provincial standards of practice for Registered Social Workers.
  • General understanding of Trauma-Informed Practice, Harm Reduction, and Strengths-based approaches.
  • Proven ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility.
  • Capability to foster Psychological Health and Safety in the workplace.
  • Experience providing culturally competent care across diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of adult education principles and effective educational strategies.
  • Proficiency in virtual learning technologies and data management skills.
  • Awareness of other health care disciplines and their roles in client care.
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging educational modules and materials.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, mentoring, and teaching skills.
  • Commitment to fostering reconciliation in Canada as outlined in the TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
  • Familiarity with the social, economic, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous Peoples, including anti-racism and Cultural Safety initiatives.
