Academy Financial Manager

Job Summary:
Pacific Academy, a leading independent Christian school in Surrey, British Columbia, is seeking a highly skilled Director of Finance to oversee the financial health of the institution. This key role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the school's financial stability and success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Planning and Budgeting: Monitor and report on the school's financial performance, ensuring alignment with budgetary goals.
- Accounting and Reporting: Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger, ensuring regulatory compliance for CRA and Ministry of Education reporting.
- Cash Flow and Asset Management: Manage the school's cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity for operations.
- Financial Policies and Procedures: Ensure regulatory compliance is maintained, including CRA compliant tax receipt preparation and Ministry of Education reporting. Review and update financial policies regularly, ensuring they align with the school's goals and legal requirements.
- Provide Training and Guidance: Offer training and guidance to staff on financial processes and policies.
- Risk Management and Insurance: Oversee the school's risk management program, including the procurement of appropriate insurance coverage. Work with the Head of School and the Board Finance Committee to mitigate financial risks.
- Audit and Tax Compliance: Coordinate the annual independent audit, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of audit schedules and financial statements. Oversee the preparation and filing of all required tax documents and reports. Implement audit recommendations and address any findings.
- Human Resource Function: Manage the human resource function for the school, including maintaining employee benefits and pension, maintaining appropriate policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
- Finance Committee and Board of Directors: Serve on the Finance Committee and support the Treasurer in meeting fiduciary responsibilities. Prepare and present financial reports and analyses to the Board of Directors.
- Senior Leadership Team: Serve as a member of the senior leadership team, contributing to the overall strategic direction of the school. Collaborate with other directors and administrators on school-wide initiatives and projects.
- Finance Staff Supervision: Supervise and mentor finance staff, fostering a culture of professional growth and accountability.
Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash management.
- Experience with financial aid administration and risk management.
- Proficiency in financial software and systems, with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
